Yellows travelled to Meden Vale and were greeted by a fantastic sunny winters day and a big pitch to play on.
Hucknall started really well and felt unlucky to have an early goal ruled out for a foul on the opposition keeper after a header from Ally Staley. However, shortly afterwards Yellows did take the lead from an own-goal despite a surprise last minute off-side flag from the opposition linesman.
New signing Matt Gains looked to have won a penalty after being tripped in the penalty area, only for the official to award the free kick the other way. A mistake in midfield presented Vale with the opportunity to break and they equalised with a really well taken goal. Vale took the lead when a mix up by Yellows presented them with an open goal and the easiest chance to score.
Half time: Meden Vale 2-1 Hucknall Town Reserves
Hucknall were terrific in the second period and camped in the opposition half for almost all of the 45mins. Shots from Byron and Gains were cleared off the line. Henry Cheetham's dipping shot was shutout with a magnificent save. Stokes thought he'd won a penalty. Gains narrowly missed with a serious of free-kicks and late on Josh Vere's header went agonisingly close.
But despite all their efforts Hucknall just couldn't find the goal that their play deserved, and the points were lost.
