Reserves Finish the Season in Style

Hucknall Reserves welcomed PMG Elite to the RM for the last game of the 23/24 season looking to finish with a victory. As per previous weeks the Yellows squad was forced into changes with Mitch Jackson and Fraser Hallam returning in place of the missing Will Bailey and Josh Vere, and Trev Lindo moved position to lead the line with Matty Gains.

A rare sunny day was most welcome, and a decent crowd assembled at the RM.

In truth Hucknall carried their poor pre-match warmup into the game and started very sluggishly. The visitors on the other hand looked dangerous and created the first openings of the game but failed to register a shot on target. Finally, Yellows began to get into their rhythm with Jackson and Danny Stokes getting a hold of the midfield area in particular. Yellows took the lead with a brilliant strike by Trev Lindo that the opposition keeper stood no chance of saving when he shot from just outside the box to find the top corner. Further chances came and went, the most notable of which was a long range free-kick from Gains that beat the keeper all ends up but crashed against the crossbar and was then cleared. On 40mins right-back Ally Staley scored what turned out to be the winning goal. A neat threaded pass found him on the angle of the 18-yard box and with the keeper off his line he hit a dipping shot up and over him for a late contender for Goal of the Season.

Yellows controlled the second half really well and their communication levels meant that they were never really threatened by a hard-working PMG side. Hucknall missed out on scoring more goals when two glorious crosses from Cheetham missed everyone in the 6-yard box and drifted away to safety with the goal wide open.

The final win of the season meant that the young Reserves squad finished with 4 wins out of the final 5 games. Time will tell if it’s enough to make this a 'special' season or not.
