Mickleover RBL 0 Hucknall Town 1
Narrow victory against a young RBL side
A youthful Mickleover RBL side showed plenty of potential and played their part in an entertaining game although Hucknall Town will be ruing plenty of missed chances in the first half to have had the game sewn up – Mickleover’s keeper making several excellent saves.
On a very bumpy pitch both sides tried to play on the floor and it was the yellows who had the better of the opening with chances created for Adam Nelson, Joe Ashurst, Jaylee Hodgson and Jordan Phillips but a combination of good saves and poor finishing kept the scores level until Aikman found the net with a left footed shot from just outside the area.
Although the more threatening the yellows could not add to their score and in doing so left Mickleover very much in the game and those missed chances were almost punished but Mike Randall stood up strong to make a good save and persevere their slender advantage.
The second half was a lot more even and Mickleover were putting pressure on Towns back line especially from long throws but they stood firm.
Joe Ashurst shot over and then from a corner the yellows appealed for a ball they thought had crossed the line – however the same linesman who gave a goal against them at Keyworth this time disallowed it followed moments later by awarding a goal kick when the ball had obviously been tipped over the bar for a yellows corner from an Ashurst shot.
The game remained tight but the yellows defended late on to secure the points.
