Hucknall Town 5 Linby CW 0
Derby delight in final league game of the season
Following Saturday’s tight game away at Mickleover this game was anything but with the game over by half time with the yellows dominant for large periods of the first half and scoring three goals but it could so easily have been double that – Josh Henry had stung the hands of the Linby keeper and then saw his follow effort blocked before Ashley Whitt pounced on a defensive error to slot home.
Linby had one of two chances in the game straight after Whitt’s goal but Mike Randall saved a shot through a crowd of players.
Whitt made it two nil to Hucknall after scrambling the ball over the line following Joe Ashurst’s low driven cross.
An horrible bobble prevented Whitt making it three from close range but he missed the ball completely then following a surging run from Jordan Phillips he squared the ball unselfishly to Whitt who only had to hit the target however a great challenge by the Linby left back did enough to force Whitt to sky over the bar the defender unfortunately injured and had to leave the game.
Linby were pretty much predictable with long balls up to their tall striker but the town defence mopped up any threats.
After a more even period of play Town made it three when Phillips this time chose to do it himself and drove a shot under the Linby keeper before half time.
The second half was a repeat of the first with the yellows able to dictate the game and expose Linby down both flanks, Matt Brian saw a free kick curl just the wrong side of the post but Michael Banister made no mistake with a sweet shot from outside the box that the keeper had little chance with.
Linby had their second effort again saved by Randall has the yellows temporally switched off
Kajally Danso quickly made his mark on the game when introduced and set himself up to strike his shot into the corner of the net.
There were more opportunities for the yellows to extend their lead but efforts by Henry, Jaylee Hodgson, Dave Leak, Jamie Crawford and Adam Nelson were missed to spare Linby.

Andy Graves "Contrasting games with a youthful and resilient Mickleover making it difficult for us on Saturday but Linby on Monday more of a stroll and the only disappointment the players felt was the number of chances we didn’t convert but Phil and myself cannot complain with another two clean sheets to add to the previous two games and 18 goals.
We’ve had to nurse and look after a couple of players these last few games and we picked up a couple of knocks today but I am hopeful that we will have everyone fit and available for the final a week on Sunday – I’ve a great headache with the form we are in, the spirit in the dressing room is tremendous and I know who ever starts will do a job for the club but I am also aware I will be the one who will disappoint some quality players who don’t make the starting line up or even the squad."
