Mickleover RBL 0 Hucknall Town 3
Solid start to the season for the yellows
Hucknall Town got off to a winning start in the Central Midlands league away at Mickleover RBL.
A hat trick from Joe Ashurst the difference where it matter but the yellows could and should have increased their goal tally but for some good goalkeeping wayward efforts.
The first half saw Mickleover happy to frustrate the yellows and slow the play down at every opportunity but their patience was rewarded when Ashurst cut inside the box and his shot was too powerful for the keeper and went through his hands.
Lifting the tempo to their pace and getting the ball back into play quicker saw Town dominate the second half with Mickleover reduced to one effort on target in the ninety minutes – Mike Randle tipping over a header from a corner.
Ashurst crashed a pass from Shaun Smith into the net and then the same pair teamed up for Ashurst’s third. Jamie Crawford had a goal ruled out and Tom Hubbard got on the end of a cross but saw his effort from close range clear the crossbar.
Town will be satisfied with the three points and look forward to their first home game of the season against newcomers AFC Kilburn.
