Hucknall Town Football Club Weekend Roundup

Hucknall Town Football Club Weekend Roundup

Pete Lee

A tough weekend of cup heartbreak and narrow league defeats for the Yellows, with plenty of grit to build on.

It was a demanding and action-packed weekend for Hucknall Town FC, with all four senior squads taking to the pitch across 10–11 October 2026. Despite plenty of grit, determination, and goals, the Yellows unfortunately found themselves on the wrong side of the scorelines in a series of tightly contested cup and league battles.
Here is the full roundup and key match details of how our teams fared over the weekend.

First Team: Knocked Out of the FA Vase

Result: Belper United 2–1 Hucknall Town FC

Transitioning from league duties to national cup action, the First Team hit the road on Saturday for the Isuzu FA Vase First Round Proper. Facing United Counties League rivals Belper United at Mickleover’s Don Amott Arena, the Yellows were eager to reset following a tough run of form.
The squad showed significant improvement in their tactical layout, battling intensely for the full 90 minutes. However, Belper managed to find the critical breakthroughs, sealing a narrow 2–1 victory to advance to the second round. While the cup exit is a tough pill to swallow, the performance gives manager Tris Whitman and assistant Arron Large plenty of positives to build on as focus shifts entirely back to the Premier Division North campaign.

Reserve Team: Frustration Against Pass Move Grin F.C.

Result: Hucknall Town Reserves 0–5 Pass Move Grin F.C.

The Hucknall Town Reserves development squad was back in Euro Soccer Nottinghamshire Football League action at The RM Stadium on Saturday afternoon. After a heartbreaking early exit from the Nottinghamshire Senior Trophy the weekend prior, the young Yellows were desperate to find their footing against a dangerous Pass Move Grin F.C. outfit.
The developmental squad pushed forward with a heavy emphasis on attacking transition, creating several key openings. However, their clinical opponents capitalised on momentary structural gaps to leave the Reserves with a frustrating 5–0 shutout loss. The development squad continues to show immense technical progress under pressure but will be looking to tighten up defensively in the coming weeks.

Sunday Team: A Five-Goal Thriller at Aerial Way

Result: Hucknall Town Sunday 2–3 AFC Trowsers

After a resilient 1–1 draw against the unbeaten Edwalton Cavaliers last time out, the Hucknall Town Sunday team returned to Aerial Way for an entertaining morning clash against AFC Trowsers in the East Midlands Public Authorities League.
It was an end-to-end, high-octane affair from the opening whistle. Hucknall broke through the visitors' defensive lines twice to score two fantastic goals, matching the clinical attacking displays seen earlier in the season. Unfortunately, AFC Trowsers proved to be incredibly lethal on the counter, sneaking a late winner to edge the contest 3–2. The Sunday side can hold their heads high after a spirited performance that easily could have gone either way.

Women’s Team: Valiant League Cup Effort Cut Short

Result: Dronfield Town Ladies 2–0 Hucknall Town FC Women

The Hucknall Town Women's squad faced a mountain to climb before the whistle even blew for their League Cup rematch against Dronfield Town Ladies. Hit hard by a severe squad shortage from sudden illness, work commitments, and holiday absences, the Yellows had to play the entire match with only ten players.
Without a full starting eleven or any substitutes, it was an incredibly tough afternoon at the office. A clinical Dronfield side took full advantage of the extra space early on, storming into a 4–0 lead by half-time.
However, what followed in the second half was nothing short of heroic. Despite the numerical disadvantage and mounting fatigue, the ten players on the pitch rallied remarkably. Putting on a masterclass in grit and defensive discipline, they completely shut down the hosts' attack to preserve a heroic second-half clean sheet. While they bow out of the cup, the squad's extraordinary second-half resilience showcased the immense character and fighting spirit present within this team.
