After another disappointment where the game at Deeping Rangers was postponed as a consequence of the weather, we are at home this Saturday as we welcome Newark and Sherwood to the RM Stadium in the UCL Premier Division North.
If this match is half as entertaining as the encounter in the Nottinghamshire Senior Cup final at the One Call Stadium, then we are in for a treat.
Meanwhile, we sat down with Keeper Alfie Smith-Eccles to get his views on the season so far as we now approach the last 3 months run up to what should be a thrilling finale with so many teams in and around the play off places.
"Overall, I would describe the season so far as solid, though not yet where I believe it should be. That assessment isn’t based on satisfaction, but rather on the clear progress we’ve made compared to previous seasons. We’ve shown that we can compete consistently against teams operating with budgets more suited to the league above, which reflects positively on the squad and the direction of the club.
"With the quality of players we have and the system introduced by Tris and Largey, I believe our minimum expectation should be to challenge for the play-offs. On our day, we are one of the strongest footballing sides in the league. However, in the matches where results haven’t gone our way, we’ve often been responsible for our own downfall, whether through individual errors leading to goals or struggling to impose ourselves when games become more physical and attritional.
"The additions of Coyle and Reason have had a noticeable positive impact on the team, particularly following the unfortunate injury to Niall, who will miss the remainder of the season. Their influence has helped maintain balance and competitiveness within the squad during a difficult period.
Looking ahead, I believe that if we can fine-tune certain aspects of our game, particularly game management and dealing with tougher, scrappier matches, we have more than enough quality to secure a play-off position by the end of the season".
The Aerial Suite and club shop as normal are open from 1.30pm in the lead up to this one and you can purchase our match day programme, which this week features an interview with club legend Sam Sims.....all for just £2.
With the current weather forecast we are hopeful that this match will be on, but as always, any intent to hold a pitch inspection is always communicated on both our website and our official X and Facebook socials, so keep an eye on those.
