On Saturday Yellows host Wisbech Town as they return to league action in the UCL Premier Division North.
With back to back wins ten days ago with an emphatic win against table toppers Eastwood CFC and last night beating step 4 side Sherwood Colliery in front of a midweek crowd of 165, Yellows are seeing many improvements in all areas of the pitch. Yellows were resolute at the back in the Nottinghamshire FA Senior Cup match on Wednesday and took their opportunities in the first half with goals from Uyi-Olaye with Lathall doubling the lead just before the break. The visitors scored early in the second half and came close to an equaliser, being denied by the woodwork on two occasions. But Yellows held on to the lead and it is they who progress to the semi finals.
Manager Tris Whitman gave his account of what was an excellent win. "In a game where we made a number of changes to the starting lineup and bench we came away with a really impressive 2-1 win against Sherwood Colliery, where I felt we started well and controlled large parts of the first half through good possession and were quick to win the ball back when Sherwood tried to break. We worked exceptionally hard to deny space and on the oppositions attacks, created a few half chances without really threatening.
"Midway through the first half I felt we started to get more joy as Sherwood pushed higher ahead of the opening goal, which allowed us to exploit space and Solace finished coolly into the bottom corner. We doubled the lead at a great time with another example of how we press out of possession, which saw Brad Lathall close down the keeper and score into an empty net.
"We always knew the second half was going to be difficult as Sherwood would push to get back into the game and some of our lads starting to look tired. This was the case and Sherwood pulled one back early into the second half which changed the momentum of the game. We were forced into a number of changes due to fatigue and cramp but I felt everybody gave everything to defend the lead and we could have extended the lead on a couple of occasions through quick counters. Sherwood pushed us to the final whistle and possibly could have equalised but overall I felt we defended their threat really well to see out the win"
Two impressive back to wins against top opposition will give the squad a huge confidence boost as they prepare for another league match at the weekend at the RM Stadium. With the table so tight around Yellows a win on Saturday would take Yellows above their opposition Wisbech Town and Whitman will have that result in his sights. "It was good to see the character of the lads in a tough cup match, which is something we look to build on going forwards and will put us in good stead for the battle we have ahead on Saturday.
"There’s a few concerns over the fitness of a few players but we’re hoping they recover in time ready for Saturdays game".
The Aerial Suite and club shop is open from 1.30pm on Saturday and kick off at the RM Stadium is 3pm.
