After an emphatic win at the weekend taking us up to 13th place, though those around us have played less games, we have two weekends at present without a match and our next match is another home one on Wednesday 19th February against Heanor Town.
Manager Tris Whitman spoke about the weekend win and a few things he has planned.
"Saturday's game against Gresley was really important in terms of the result. We knew a win would increase our gap between the two teams and also help move us further away from teams at the bottom of the table.
"We started the game extremely brightly on Saturday and were 1-0 up in the opening minutes when Sugars converted Joey's cross. I felt we didn’t control the game as well as we could have after that and Gresley looked threatening on occasion especially through their fullbacks.
"We changed things slightly in game to prevent their fullbacks going high and this led to them turning the ball over to Joey who hit an unbelievable effort from 40 plus yards which sailed over the Keeper to make it 2-0. That goal seemed to spark confidence in the lads and we finished the half perfectly when Chae broke through and sent us in 3-0 at half time.
"At half time we spoke about managing the game and ensuring that we didn’t concede. I felt the lads worked extremely hard which helped us see out the second half without conceding, even though Gresley came close on a couple of occasions. The win took us up to 13th and we aim to now finish the season as high as possible".
It is another free weekend for the squad, this time as a result of the knock on effect of cup fixtures, frustrating when the squad is on such a fine run but the squad will be embarking on a bit of team bonding. Whitman explained. "Due to no game this weekend the lads had a tough training session and this Saturday we have planned a social event (indoor golf) to get the lads together. The engagement in these sorts of things has been absolutely exceptional since we came into the club".
A key aspect of the teams upturn in form is credit not only to the sessions the whole coaching team put on week after week, but also the emphasis on driving a positive team spirit and this can definitely be felt all around the club.
So Yellows will go into next Wednesday's match fully prepared both mentally and physically for Heanor Town who sit 11 points ahead of us. That match kicks off at the RM Stadium at 7.45PM and it should be a real battle as two decent teams with different objectives, do battle.
You can join us from 6.30pm in the Aerial Suite for drinks and we can now advise that a selection of hot food will now only be available from our own kitchen on match days to the end of the season.
