NEXT UP BOXING DAY ACTION AND THOUGHTS FROM THE MANAGER...

Paul Burley24 Dec 2024 - 13:13

Kimberley MW v Yellows

We travel the short distance to Kimberley on Boxing Day as we face Kimberley Miners Welfare FC in the UCL Premier Division North.Kimberley are currently sitting at the bottom of the table and Manager Tris Whitman has only one thing in his sights, that being back to back wins after a fine performance and win at the weekend.

Speaking of the 3-0 victory at home to Melton Town, the Manager felt that the squad executed the game plan well. "Saturday was nice to finally play at home after a long period of away games. We felt we were really well prepared having the previous Saturday off, which allowed us to focus on our press and pressing patterns which were evident throughout, against Melton. Again we started brightly and took an early lead through a well worked move that opened up the Melton defence for Louis Parkes to run through and cooly finish. It was at this point the real test of mentality was needed, as we had started the previous games strong but quickly found ourselves in a losing position.

"We had spoken to the lads about momentum and continuing to do things that had brought them success, as opposed to sitting back and I thought they showed excellent examples of this, being aggressive out of possession to deny Melton building out of their own half.

"There was a nervousness about the lads at halftime, maybe due to not being in a position of winning at halftime time recently. We just reinforced all the positive things they had done in the first period and asked them to continue to work at the level they had for the first 45 minutes.

"I feel we quickly found our rhythm second half, especially out of possession and after Niall scored our second goal after some great work from Joe Ashurst you could see the team playing with way more confidence. We finished the game strong and an excellent performance was capped off by an excellent solo goal by Ethan Hulley".

This win moved Yellows up to 17th in the table and a win on Boxing day could help make a huge difference to the table over the festive period as just 5 points separate 13th and 19th place in the table and Whitman is keen to maintain the momentum from the weekend. "Boxing Day is a great opportunity to get back to back wins. The lads were again in training on Monday in preparation for the game with a light fun session to keep the morale and mood of the players high".

The match is a 1pm Kick off at the Stag Ground, admission is £7 adults, £4 concessions and U16's free with a paying adult.

We are really hoping for a good away support in what is a very important match in our quest to move towards mid table.
