We paid tribute to our Skipper Aaron Short before yesterday's home match at the RM Stadium.
Short joined the club from Eastwood some six and a half years ago and in a game where loyalty is a rare commodity, Short has remained with the club during that period, which has seen many ups and downs, highs and lows.
"Without a number of people both behind the scenes who help run the club and some key Managers, I would not have stayed this long. Andy Graves gave me the opportunity to join the club and I thank him for that and Andy Ingle presided over the first team during what was probably my best moment in my playing career, that being the win at Birstall to secure us promotion to step 5 football. A truly amazing day and one that I will remember forever".
Short also gave credit to his Grandad. "My Grandad was a massive Yellows fan and I guess that's where my loyalty stems from. But if it wasn't for the people behind the scenes and the fact that the club is so welcoming, along with great periods under Graves and Ingle, then you don't get to stay at a club do you. But there is much more, the fans of course have been great with me and their support is just fantastic".
Short has had many highs but two particular games stand out. "I skippered the last ever match at the old Watnall Road ground and I skippered the first home match at the new stadium and that can't be re-written".
Short was also quick to praise the current first team Manager Tris Whitman and the rest of the coaching staff. "Since they arrived I would say we have played some of our best football and although a few results have gone against us this season, I am still confident things will even themselves out and we will do well this season".
Short was presented with a scroll in honour of his 200th appearance by another Yellows legend Sam Sims, who himself has played over 200 matches for us.
