Reserves win on the road at Beeston Old Boys

Stewart Bowley3 Apr 2023 - 09:26

Callum Orange double helps secure victory for Yellows.

Hucknall Town Reserves travelled to Beeston to take on Old Boys. The two teams had met way back in August where the Yellows had run out 3-1 winners. However, the home team were in good form and boasted the bragging rights from the previous weeks win over local rivals Beeston FC.
On a scruffy pitch it was difficult to play decent football, but Hucknall did put together some nice passages of play and as always took the game to the opposition. Yellows were guilty of rushing things in the final third early on and had to wait until 30mins before taking the lead when Ethan Greenidge lobbed the keeper from all of 30 yards - some would say a fluke, but it's the fourth time he'd done it this season! The goal settled Hucknall down and the play got better and better.
Half time: Beeston Old Boys 0-1 Hucknall Town Reserves

Beeston changed formation and pushed more men forward looking for an opening created by long balls over the top. But Hucknall's defensive line of Greenidge, Staley, Roberts and Harrison kept a good shape and defended well. Behind them Connor Richardson produced a super save to tip the ball away as it looked to be heading for the top corner. Hucknall looked great on the break and thought they should have had a penalty when Orange was taken out by the goalkeeper in the middle of his area only for the free kick to be awarded on the very edge. If anything, this encouraged Hucknall to raise their game even higher and Orange grabbed a well-deserved goal to make it 2-0 with a well hit shot that no keeper was going to save. This was quickly followed by a couple of efforts from Yellows that smacked against the bar. Then in the final moments, Orange grabbed a second when the Old Boys keeper mis controlled in his area and presented the easiest chance to make the score 3-0.

All thoughts are now with our Intermediate Cup semi-final on Wednesday 5th April when we take on Stapleford in what should be a great game. We'd love your support for this home game under the lights at Aerial Way, 7:30pm kick-off.
