Reserves beat Cavaliers under the floodlights

Reserves second game of the season saw them take on FC Cavaliers. Cavs had played in the NSL Premier division last season, so Hucknall knew this game was likely to be a good test.
Reserves made a couple of changes in central defence where they welcomed the experience Rio Bakala and Jake Brien into the team.

Hucknall started well and created a number of chances, but unlike the previous week they scored after only 10mins when Trevell Lindo scored by following up a header that was saved from Montell Gatland to take the lead.
The chances continued to flow for the home side. Rick Clayton and Gatland both had good opportunities to test the keeper but went narrowly wide. Hucknall thought they had got a second, only for the linesman’s flag to rule out a Brad Palmer effort.
The defence looked very solid with Bakala and Brien, along with Corey Scothern and Dylan Smith, dealing with things nicely.

Despite some good early opportunities for Hucknall, including a missed penalty, the second goal didn't come until around 70mins when Callum Orange smashed into the top corner after wriggling free from his marker. This was quickly followed by the move of the game. Great work from Fraser Hallam won the ball in midfield. He then played a one-two with Lewis Ridley-Phoenix and then found Orange who slotted home at the near-post. More scoring chances went begging and Hucknall will have to be sharper in front of goal in future games for sure. However, it’s a good start to the season, but a very long way to go.
