In the circumstances maybe this was a point gained such was the way the game was officiated with both sides on the end of some poor decisions.
Town were pressing from the whistle and the opening ten minutes was played mainly in the Blidworth half who were happy to clear any danger long and deep into the yellows half.
Slightly against the run of play (town had most of the possession but had not really created a clear opening) a through ball should have been dealt with much better as Montell Gatland hesitated and was caught in two minds when he should have cleared but his weak header back to James Beddingham was seized on by the Blidworth striker who slotted home – this was to be Blidworth’s first and last strike on goal for the rest of the game.
Town pressed again and Michael Banister had a great opportunity to level with half the goal at his mercy and two teammates to his left – his side footed placed effort well wide.
Town forced several corners and Blidworth had the same but neither side gained any advantage as both defences were on top.
The second half saw Blidworth defend in resolute style and countering when they could with Town pressing for the equaliser – Cameron Davison got on the end of a great low cross but turned his shot wide.
The equaliser came from a well worked free kick between Banister and Joe Ashurst with the latter placing and crafted side foot shot through a crowd of players and into the net from outside the box.
Town thought they had taken the lead when Blidworth’s keeper fired his kick into the back of substitute Adam Nelson as he was walking away with his back to goal, the ball bounced to Matt Brian and he passed it into an empty net.
The referee who was also walking away with his back to the action went over to his linesman and after a discussion the goal was unjustly ruled out and to add insult to injury Nelson was booked!!!!! The linesman saying he had run across the kick deliberately which he most certainly didn’t do as he was walking way with his back to goal.
For all of their pressure Town could not find another way past a very well organised and strong Blidworth backline and had to settle for a share of the points.
Blidworth are a very good organised side and we knew if we gave them time on the ball they could hurt us but to be honest apart from the error of their goal we did not allow them to create another goal scoring chance with Jimmy not having a save to make apart from routine catches and clearances.
Andy Graves - The game had eleven yellow cards but probably only two were warranted as the occasion got the better of all the officials but when off sides are given from throw ins and kick off’s and restarts are from the ball being played backwards rather than forwards you know the standard you are going to get and they are the basics.
AD was walking with his back to goal and the Blidworth keeper strikes him with the ball and it bounces to Matt who is on side but the linesman rules it out by saying AD ran across him which is a joke.
I am sure other sides have lost points due to poor and inaccurate decisions this season but I know we have probably lost seven points through them but you are expected to accept them.
Hopefully all of our games will be videoed next season so at least we can back our claims up and hope for an explanation and some positive dialogue even though decisions and results won’t be overturned.
