A wonder strike from Matt Brian settled the three points in a very entertaining and hard fought encounter at Riverside Park this afternoon.
The home side started without several key players through holidays etc and gave Moore and Towers their first starts of the season.
Hucknall had players missing to. Captain Aaron Short still out with concussion and Joe Ashurst unavailable. Lenford Jenkins Paired up with Jordan Phillips as centre backs.
Hucknall started brightly but suffered a blow when Michael Banister was injured following a late tackle.
Hucknall took the lead in the 13th minute with a great individual goal from Matt Brian. The striker picked up the ball on the left wing and cut inside before unleashing a terrific strike in the top corner. An early contender for Hucknall’s goal of the season.
Banister couldn’t shake off the injury and was replaced by Crawford straight after the goal. The armband being passed on to Sims.
Hucknall had Barrow rattled and thought they had gone two nil up when Brian turned the ball in from close range. To the home sides relief the linesman thought Brian was offside but he was behind the ball when it was played in.
Barrow then had a spell of their own but the quality of the final ball was lacking despite some promising positions,
Tom Hubbard then had a terrific longe range effort of his own but the ball came back off the crossbar.
Just before half time Hucknall had a golden chance to double their lead when Cayne Maxwell was upended by the home keeper Simpson in cynical fashion which merited a yellow card. This gave Simpson the chance to redeem himself with a great save from Crawford from the resultant spot kick.
Hucknall went into the break wondering how only one goal separated the sides.
The Second half was much more even and Barrow began it much better. Jablonski was forced into a great double save. That set the tone for the second half with both keepers making smarts saves to thwart anymore goals.
Hucknall had further substitutions second half with Maxwell being replaced by Alexander-Raymond and Danso replacing Crawford near the end.
The home side will regret their missed chances and it got nervy at the end but Hucknall earned the three points.
Good luck to Barrow for the rest of the season. It was my first visit and it is a lovely ground to visit.
Hucknall move on to Mondays home game with Eastwood CFC who suffered their second defeat of the season at home to Dunkirk today.
